Medical Students: University of Central Florida School of Medicine MS III & MS IV. NOVA Southeastern University: Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine MS III. Visiting MS IV students from various institutions. Educational experiences include didactic sessions in morning report, noon conference and critical care lectures, medical simulation training, and beside clinical teaching.
Residents: Our institution is an academic freestanding tertiary children’s hospital with 130 inpatient beds, an annual pediatric ED volume of 40,000 visits per year, and annual admissions of about 5,000 per year. We provide training for various levels of learners including a three-year pediatric residency training program for thirty-six residents. Visiting residents from emergency medicine, neurology, psychiatry, family practice, and anesthesia are also provided pediatric training in clinical rotations.
Faculty Physicians, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists: My experience as a director and instructor in the Nemours Academy of Master Educators has allowed me to teach learners in various disciplines of medicine interested in medical education. The curriculum duration is one academic year with prework beginning in July followed by ten monthly sessions. Learners are given pre-work and practice active learning in the classroom. A capstone project is completed as part of the course. The course is directed by a physician and nurse lead. Each class includes a former graduate as an instructor.
